Since I have the background information about the family I will be staying with in Honduras, I thought I would post a little bit about them. Such information arrived via Abram Huyser Honig, my main contact at AJS and a close friend of the family I will be describing.
"Dennis and Karlyn Cerrato are a Christian couple in their early thirties who live in Nueva Suyapa, a poorer neighborhood close to the ASJ office. Dennis is a professional artist (you can see some of his beautiful paintings at his website: www.denniscerratoart.com), and is also a leader at the local church his family attends, Nueva Suyapa Christian Reformed Church (Iglesia Cristiana Reformada - Nueva Suyapa). Karlyn is an ama de casa (housewife), but also makes and sells cakes, popsicles, and other goodies out of their home. They have five children: Dennis (12), Kevin (10), Jonathan (9), Isaac (7), and Celeste (6). All the kids are really friendly, love hanging out and playing with visitors, and love drawing (they take after their dad). Karlyn is a great cook and will provide breakfast and dinner at home, and lunch to bring along with you to ASJ."
In addition, according to Abe, I will have my own room, bed, etc. The family has electricity, TV, and (quite often, though not always) running water (because they have their own elevated water tank).
Above all else (and this is for my most anxious followers): "Dennis and Karlyn have hosted a number of American students in the past and are very good at relating to Americans."
La familia ya me parece maravillosa!!!
